<div class="section1"><div class="Normal" style="" text-align:="" justify="">HYDERABAD: The Indian Hockey Federation has finally taken action against Punjab Police defender Kanwalpreet Singh and banned him for two years for the brutal assault on Deepak Thakur during a tournament in New Delhi on February 26.<br /><br />The belated action by IHF came to light during an inquiry into Sunday’s incident at the Senior National Hockey Championship in which another Indian Oil player Vikramjit Singh had accused Punjab’s Gagan Ajit Singh and Daljit Singh of assaulting him.<br /><br />IHF general secretary K Jothikumaran confirmed the ban. “Yes, Kanwalpreet Singh has been banned for two years from playing in domestic as well as international hockey. This decision was taken by the IHF president KPS Gill on the basis of a report from the tournament director of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Memorial,� Jothikumaran told TOI here on Monday.<br /><br />Ban recommended for Gagan, Daljit: Punjab duo Gagan Ajit Singh and Daljit Singh Dhillon may face suspension if recommendations of the disciplinary committee are approved by the IHF. The committee prescribed strict action, including suspension, for the players for their alleged assault on Indian Oil Corporation’s Vikramjeet Singh in an off-field incident on Sunday. </div> </div>
